The worship of Lord Jagannath
is conducted as per the prescription of spiritual texts like Narada
Pancharatra, Nilardri Mahodaya, Gopalacharan pujavidhi, etc. Worship is done
daily with special seasonal Festivals and pujas.
These are described in the record of rights.
The daily pujas are done with 16 pacharas(special offerings) at least thrice
daily and with 5 upacharas during other times of the day. The daily
Rituals conducted normally include Dwarapitha Mangalarathi, Mailam,
Abakash, Mailam, sahanmela, Beshalagi, Rosha Homa, Surya Puja, Dwarapala Puja,
Gopala Ballav Bhoga, Sakal Dhupa, Mailam & Bhoga Mandap, Madhyana Dhupa,
Madhyahna Pahuda, Sandhya Arati, Sandhya Dhupa, Mailam and Chandanlagi,
Badasingar Vesha, Badasinghar Dhupa and Khata Sejalagi Pahada
The above daily routines include waking up of the Lord with auspicious
Offerings cleaning the temple, worshipping his associates, offering the
various upacharas, changing of the dress of the Lord, making Bhog Offerings
almost continuously. (This continuous offering is a result of the Boon given by
Lord to King Indradyumna that his hands would never dry from eating!), resting
the Lord at the end of the day etc.
